  16. Yep, a simple extension THAT HAS TO BE SUPPORTED BY THE CHIPSET. EDO stands 
  17. for "extended data out". Which doesn't mean it finds the data any faster,
  18. oh no. It means that, once found, it will keep the data at the outputs
  19. even while looking for the next bits. Normal DRAM doesn't do this.

  22. usual strategy of "put out address -- wait for data -- read data --
  23. put out next address" to "put out address -- wait for data -- put out next

  34. Are you suggesting EDO-cache here? EDO is dynamic RAM, cache is static
  35. RAM. What you want is pipelined burst cache, which does something
  36. remotely similar. It really improves cache performance.

  44. a) measure it (a speed increase of as little as 10% is very very rarely
  45.    noticed, and most times it's just the "I know the machine is faster,
  46.    and it sure feels like it, too" syndrom. Try fiddling with a jumper in 
  47.    a friend's PC, changing nothing at all. Tell him you just speeded the
  48.    machine up by 5-10%, and ask him whether he notices. Most likely, he
  49.    will....
